چکیده

production run with hydrogen peroxide and rinsed with deionized water. As moisture may remain in the less accessible points of the system (bends and filters), Kathon CG is added to the rinse water to ensure a completely sterile process. As a result of this finding, the company marketing the cream compensated the patient and changed the procedure for cleaning the machinery, replacing the Kathon CG in the rinse water with other biocides (methylparaben, propylparaben, and diazolidinyl urea). We believe that the very small amount of methylchloroisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone that may be contained in the finished product is due to contamination. The rinse water which is used to clean the packaging machine contains Kathon CG and may briefly come into contact with the cream, especially in the first few bottles of the production run. Although it would have been advisable to determine the presence of Kathon CG in the content of the bottle used by the patient, it was not possible to do so because of the technical difficulty involved. The patient’s atopic predisposition and her work, in which she uses the cream daily, probably accentuated the problem and caused the severe acute dermatitis.

Vesiculopustular eruptions in Down syndrome neonates with myeloproliferative disorders.

BACKGROUND Infants with Down syndrome are at increased risk for hematologic abnormalities, including leukemoid reaction, transient myeloproliferative disorder, and congenital leukemia. The differential diagnosis of a vesiculopustular eruption in an infant with Down syndrome and these hematologic abnormalities is broad and includes benign, self-limited disorders as well as life-threatening infec...

Acute leukemias in children with Down syndrome.

Children with Down syndrome have an increased risk for developing both acute myeloid as well as lymphoblastic leukemia. These leukemias differ in presenting characteristics and underlying biology when compared with leukemias occurring in non-Down syndrome children. Myeloid leukemia in children with Down syndrome is preceded by a preleukemic clone (transient leukemia or transient myeloproliferat...

Trisomy of Erg is required for myeloproliferation in a mouse model of Down syndrome.

Down syndrome is characterized by multiple phenotypic manifestations associated with trisomy of chromosome 21. The transient myeloproliferative disorder and acute megakaryocytic leukemia associated with Down syndrome are uniquely associated with mutations in the transcription factor GATA1; however, the identity of trisomic genes on chromosome 21 that predispose to these hematologic disorders re...

Transient myeloproliferative disorder in a newborn with down syndrome treated with rasburicase for the risk of development of tumor lysis syndrome: A case report

This is the report of a newborn with Down syndrome diagnosed with transient myeloproliferative disorder (TMD) that required chemotherapy on the first day of life. Children with Down syndrome have a 10- to 20-fold increased risk of developing TMD. TMD is characterized by an uncontrolled proliferation of myeloblasts in the infant's peripheral blood and bone marrow. In most instances, this unique ...

Management of Duodenal Atresia in the setting of Congenital Leukemia with Massive Hepatomegaly

Down's syndrome (DS) is associated with duodenal atresia (DA) in about 8-10% of cases. Transient Myeloproliferative Disorder (TMD)/Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is also associated with the trisomy 21 mutation. The occurrence of the two conditions together complicates the diagnosis and surgical management of the DA. We discuss the technical aspects of management of the DA in this clinical setting.

Monoclonal Blast Cell Proliferation in Transient Myeloproliferative Disorder

Transient myeloproliferative disorder is a hematological condition observed during the neonatal period in patients with Down syndrome [1]. This disorder mimics congenital leukemia and the blast cells were often reported to show characteristics compatible with those of megakaryoblasts [2] or pluripotent stem cells [3]. Although this disorder usually resolves gradually without antileukemic treatm...
